What Are the Differences Between Levels 1, 2 and 3?

October 16, 2026•2 min read

EQ World's Enneagram learning pathway consists of three levels, each designed to support a different stage of learning. Level 1 introduces the foundational concepts, Level 2 develops coaching knowledge and skills, and Level 3 advances learning through more complex concepts and practitioner applications.

Understanding the differences can help you identify which level best suits your current knowledge and learning goals.

Level 1 — Foundational Programme

Level 1 is a two-day foundational programme that introduces the nine Enneagram personality types and their practical applications.

Participants begin developing an understanding of the Enneagram framework and how the nine types relate to different motivations and patterns of behaviour. This provides a foundation for exploring personality differences and considering how Enneagram insights can be applied in everyday and professional situations.

Level 1 is the starting point for individuals who are new to the Enneagram or who want to establish their foundational knowledge before progressing to further study.

Level 2 — High Performance Coaching with the Enneagram

Level 2 builds on the foundational knowledge developed in Level 1 and focuses on developing coaching skills using the Enneagram.

Participants deepen their understanding of the framework and learn how to apply Enneagram insights when working with others. The programme develops the ability to use the Enneagram as a coaching tool rather than focusing only on personal understanding.

This level is suited to participants who want to develop their coaching knowledge and skills and explore how the Enneagram can support coaching and professional development.

Level 3 — Advanced Practitioner Certification

Level 3 is the advanced stage of EQ World's Enneagram learning pathway. It builds on the knowledge and skills developed in Level 2, extending learning through advanced concepts and practitioner applications.

Rather than repeating the foundational material, Level 3 provides further opportunities to develop Enneagram expertise and deepen practitioner learning.

Level 2 is the prerequisite for Level 3, as the advanced programme builds on the concepts, tools and coaching resources introduced at the previous level.

Choosing Your Learning Pathway

The three levels provide a progression from foundational understanding to coaching skills and advanced practitioner learning.

  • Level 1: Establish your foundational understanding of the nine Enneagram types and their practical applications.

  • Level 2: Build on that foundation and develop coaching skills using the Enneagram.

  • Level 3: Advance your knowledge and practitioner applications beyond Level 2.

If you are new to the Enneagram, Level 1 is the recommended starting point. If you have already completed Enneagram training, review the relevant entry requirements before enrolling in a higher-level programme.

Progression to the higher levels is subject to the applicable programme entry requirements.
